Who needs a Class 2 Licence?
If you drive any rigid vehicle (truck or bus) with a Gross Laden Weight of between 4,500 kgs and 18,000 kgs you must have a Class 2 Licence.
The Gross Laden Weight (or Gross Vehicle Mass) is listed on the Certificate of Loading on your windscreen.
The Class 2 licence also is also required to drive any combination vehicle (truck and trailer, and the total loads on both) up to 12,000 kgs. This includes combinations such as a 2,500 kgs 4WD hauling a 2,000 kgs boat and trailer.
To Qualify for the Course:
Before you can undertake this course you must have held a Full Car Licence (Class 1) for at least six months, then get a Class 2 Learner's Licence. You must be competent with a manual gearbox.
Length of Course:
Once you have the Class 2 Learner’s Licence our course will take two days of classroom study and about half a day in the truck.
Course Dates:
Courses start every Tuesday. Bookings are essential. Saturday course may be available for groups. We are open for business every week of the year.

Enrol, pay the fees, we will send you the study guides and book a date for your course.
The course includes two NZQA Unit Standards:
- 24089 Fatigue, Work Time and Driving Hours Logbook
- 17574 Operate a Class 2 Vehicle
The assessments are all closed book, so you will need to study the books carefully.
