Defensive Driving Course
Get 6 months off your Restricted Licence and learn how to pass the full licence test. By developing the skills needed to steer clear of a car accident, you'll be able to move from your restricted to a full driving licence six months sooner (or three months if you're aged over 25-years).
During your Defensive Driving course we'll teach you three key driving skills:
- Searching (eye scanning)
- Assessing (hazard identification)
- Reducing risk (risk management)
We'll do this via five separate training sessions. Four of these are theory-based (and include the ACC’s interactive Practice CD-Rom).
The fifth is an in-car practical session. In total, it takes just nine hours to complete the course.
You'll have learned how to manage the factors that lead to car crashes. These include:
- Inattention
- Emotions
- Driving conditions
- Drugs and alcohol
- Peer pressure
This defensive driving course isn't just for new drivers. No matter your age, you'll learn real skills that could make a life or death difference on the road.
How do I register for a Defensive Driving course?
To start the course, you'll need to hold either:
