Passenger Endorsement Course
The P endorsement is required for anybody driving a passenger service vehicle for hire. You are then only limited in the jobs you can get by the driver licence classes you hold. For example:
Class 1 and P - Tour guides, taxis, shuttles, limousines, dial-a-driver
Class 2 and P - Bus up to 18 tonnes e.g., Go Wellington
Class 4 and P - Coach over 18 tonnes e.g., Tranzit Intercity
To get a P Endorsement you must:
- Get a Medical Certificate for Driver Licence from your Doctor
- Do a NZ Transport Agency Approved Industry Training Course. This involves pre-course reading, then 2 days in the classroom covering the driving hours logbook and the passenger industry rules. Enrol, pay your fees, receive your study guides. Book your course, complete it and get your P Endorsement Certificate
- Lodge your application with VTNZ or AA driver licensing agent. Pay the fees for 1 year or 5 years registration
- Book a Full Licence Test in a car. Test details can be found here: http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/factsheets/58.html
- Pass a Police check on your criminal and traffic history. This can take 8 weeks. Note: if you are an immigrant you will have to provide a Police clearance certificate from your country
You will get a new Drivers Licence with a ‘P’ on it. Small passenger service vehicle drivers get an ID card which must be displayed when working.
