Forklift & OSH Certificate

Forklift instruction sessionWhat is a forklift licence?

A forklift licence consists of two parts: Department of Labour OSH Certificate in Safe Handling Skills; and the F endorsement for your driver licence.

The OSH certificate entitles you to drive a forklift in the workplace. The F endorsement is required if you drive a forklift on public roads. The definition of a road includes anywhere that the public have vehicular access to – whether as of right or not.

What all that means is that you need the OSH certificate to get a job in the warehouse and you need the F endorsement to drive the Forklift out in the yard loading and unloading trucks.

The OSH certificate expires every 3 years, while the F endorsement does not expire.

Am I eligible?

avoid crashing your forkliftIf you have a current Full New Zealand drivers licence, you are eligible to receive both the F endorsement and the OSH certificate. However, if you only have your learners or restricted licence, you only qualify for the OSH certificate and you will not be able to drive the Forklift on a road.
